Even though he’s obviously not a small man, Ulf actually looks tiny compared to all the guys he beat! I know Gunthor is 6’7″ Barnes and Beyer are around 6’4″ each. Anyone know how tall Ulf is?

  6. 70footeron 29 Aug 2008 at 5:25 pm

    Barnes and Beyer are around 6’4” 300…….Gunthor 6’5” 285..ulf is only 6’3” about 260

it really says something that Ude Beyer was considered strong among shotputters

    he used roids

  10. chrisrules9955on 31 Jan 2009 at 6:10 am

He really did, although he was “smaller” than some of the other throwers, he along with practically all of them were on steroids. All of them were 500+ bench pressers and you can believe their squats were tremendous.

ulf timmermann and udo beyer i know squat well in the 700lb range and do believe randy barnes and Werner gunthor did to. but all of them used roids back then. you really couldn’t win without them. especially timmermann and beyer were roid taker. Way bigger then barnes was and the other shot putters there.

i think the prerequisite for olympics should be measuring your penis too make sure youve never done roids in your life

  16. jakebrigandon 13 Jul 2009 at 10:41 pm

you obviously know nothing about roids

  17. cdeavellar1on 12 Oct 2009 at 8:19 am

thats stupid. steriods shrink your balls.

  18. chadciteon 21 Oct 2009 at 6:05 pm

where did you learn about timmermann and barnes steroid usage ? With the way you’re talking you could say you administered the juice to them ?

  19. chadciteon 21 Oct 2009 at 6:07 pm

did anyone notice that timmermann had the greatest height in his throws ? Even his 72ft throw had greater height than randy barnes 73’5 . I think its clear the technician won this match.

barnes has got the world record knw :)

Timmermann was amazing for a guy that weighed 260, so much explosive power and great technique, you dont have to be a 300lb monster!!

Greatest shot put competition ever… and the stands are practically empty… :(

@moneybody1 i remembered watching this on live telecast in 1988. it is very interesting.!!..the video cut short all the tension that was there. Ulf is the only shot putter whom i consider elegantly handsome (being not bulky and big like others). Before the competition, i expect Gunthoer or Alessandro ANdrei to win and Ulf coming 2nd or 3rd. Very happy Ulf won.

Is the spin better than the glide or are they just different ?
