The ceremony had never before been a separate event, always an appendix to the last competition of the Winter Games. But this time it was a special item on the programme with special tickets of admission. On advice from the dates committee the Organising Committee decided to have an interval between the jumping, special class on Sunday at noon and the closing ceremony on Monday evening. Sunday evening had to be kept free for the final ice hockey matches and on Monday morning any competitions that might have been postponed or any ice hockey play-off matches could take place if need be. As it turned out, it became necessary to play two ice hockey matches on Monday, one which was postponed and one play-off match. The time for the closing ceremony was set for Monday, February 25th at 7 pm and it took place at Bislett Stadium. As the official programme is rather short, it was necessary to give the event a broader buildup. After the quite solemn Olympic closing ceremony the programme was to include entertainment of a lighter nature and would be terminated by a display of fireworks on the ice, which is traditionally popular at events of this nature in Oslo.
