Will India win the most medals of any Asian country at the 2010 winter games?

India won the most medals in both 2007 Asian Winter Games and the 2006 Asian Summer Games. At the most recent Asian games, India won 10 gold, 17 silver, 26 bronze for a total of 53 medals. India is a sporting power in Asia, especially in sports like cricket and hockey. Germany & USA may dominate the overall medals table at the 2010 games but will India be the top Asian nation?
India has the largest population and the largest economy in Asia so they have the people and money to train the athletes. India also has more sports facilities and more young people playing sports then any other country in the world.
Just a comment on some of the responses. India could not have finished 81st and 83rd in the ski competitions because only the world’s top 35 skiers are entered into the competition. Indian athletes are proud and would either ski hard and win or fall down trying, they would never succumb to a lesser finish.
Also, one person said that soccer was the big sport in India. That is not true. India is a top country at cricket and hockey. The hockey medals have yet to be handed out, India has won many gold medals at hockey before and this year is not any different.
Also, India may not have as many athletes as their best friends, America at the Olympics but their athletes can be entered into multiple events thus winning more then one medal. Think of Michael Phelps or Stephanie Rice.

At the end of February 26th, 2010, the top Asian nations at the Vancouver Winter Olympics are as follows.
Korea: 6 gold, 6 silver, 2 bronze = 14 medals
China: 5 gold, 2 silver, 4 bronze = 11 medals
Japan: 0 gold, 3 silver, 2 bronze = 5 medals
There are two more days left for Olympic competition so if India has any athletes that have yet to compete, they can increase their medal haul. Note, India has yet to win a medal. It is unfair to judge a country’s medal tally before the games are completely over. There are still medals to be handed out for hockey, alpine skiing, snowboard parallel slalom, skeleton and cross country skiing.
Korea
- all their medals won so far are from short or long track speed skating with the exception of a lone gold from figure skating star Kim YuNa
China
- medals won so far are from speed skating, figure skating, curling & freestyle skiing – aerials
Japan
- medals won so far are from speed skating & figure skating
Do note that Russia can be considered an Asian country as the large country has land in both Europe & Asia. If you consider Russia an Asian country, they have 14 medals so India will have to really excel in the remaining four days to overtake leaders China, Korea & Russia. Of course, many group Russia in the European continental group since their capital city is in Europe.
The only other Asian country to have medalled so far is Kazakhstan who won a silver in the biathlon.
